I came across this quote recently while randomly poking around on Livejournal, and it's amazingly stupid."There is an ancient Indian saying, that something lives only as long as the last person who remembers it. My people have come to trust memory over history. Memory, like fire, is radiant and immutable. Those who would douse the flame of memory, in order to put out the dangerous fire of truth - beware these men, for they are dangerous themselves, and unwise. Their false history is written in the blood of those who might remember, and of those who seek the truth."
I just got back from the CMU benefits fair -- it looks like I am not particularly screwed. I'll need to pay a little bit more per month, but the difference is not large ($10 pretax) and I switched to a better vision plan so I can get new glasses every year instead of every two years. There were a number of strange businesses selling things at the fair, from herbal medicines and massages to speedos. Why? Because they give CMU money, I guess. I picked up a seizure-inducing pocket light thing and a fair number of pens. As an added side-benefit, because CMU switched vision providers, I believe I can get new glasses immediately after I get the new ID card next year.
