Will it make me invincible?

What happens when the 70s meet the 80s?"There's a starman waiting in the sky.. he'd like to..""Err.. pardon me, but will it make me invincible?"

For those who don't get it, the cultural elements are David Bowie's "Starman" (recorded well before I was born, in 1972, and also one of my favourite songs) and the starman item from Super Mario Brothers.

For the first time in many months, I put in an order on for some books I've been wanting to get (plus an excellent movie). Looking at a certain part of the order confirmation page makes me kind of sad though..

Anyhow, in this order is:

  • Kundera's Book of Laughter and Forgetting
  • Bakunin's God and the State
  • A collection of Zelazny books called Manna from Heaven
  • A DVD called The Quarrel which I talked about many BLOG entries past
I am trying to help a local place find a very good sysadmin. In a sense I wish I could take the job myself, but I feel needed where I am and I like what I'm doing. The next best thing I can do is help make sure they don't end up with someone who can't meet their needs well. I have a few people in mind to talk to.

For some homework I've been doing, I've been largely gluing programs together. This grows irritating when I need to parse freeform text output -- it would be very cool if instead all this stuff traveled through database tables... Mmm.. tasty database tables... *falls asleep*
