Feeding the Doggerel

Last night's dream had a kind of lousy bit of poetry narrated over part of it.

You said "We'll be each other's hero"
And I thought "why not?"
But now who wears the mask, and when
is my prevailing thought

We teamed to fight the world, and mayhap
saved each other more than twice
But rescue parties every day
Moreso than strife brought us a price

Today, soccer was replaced with something else, a bit of hanging out with people I don't normally hang out with, and eventually ending in a bar. I've never been that comfortable in bars - I generally am tossed into a "safari" mode where I feel incredibly distant and scientifically curious about how people "on the other side" interact with their strange customs. I think part of the oddness is that bar-frequenters tend to be of a different social class than that I was raised in.. To whatever extent I've tried to bridge those gaps and remove some inculturation of that sort, I haven't been entirely successful. For a good part of the time I was there, some part of me was thinking about the Turkey-Iraq situation.. I don't think that anyone I know here is particularly interested in talking about issues in governance or current events (current history?), which is disappointing.
