The Soft Blades of Glass

Are there ways that if you, as you are now, were placed into society of 100 years ago, would be at risk if you expressed your attributes, interests, and lifestyle fully? The notion of risk is meant to be open-ended here. How about 500 years ago? Today? How about people you know? Does this represent progress to you? How do you see this kind of thing changing in the future? If more things are to be tolerated that are controversial or abhorent today, what do you think they will be? Do you think these changes would be good ones?
