Communal Ties

I may have blogged about this before. Probably have.

I feel that we're really doing it wrong in modern/western cities by not having enough noncommercial communal spaces right by where people live. I am fine with living alone (or at least not with anyone who would mind seeing me naked), but I think that I and everyone else really should have, with a maximum of a 10 minute walk, access to a field where people gather for music and discussion and company all the time. Campfires every single night, at least a few people there at any given moment, and neighbourhood feel. I feel television should never have been as big as it has, but if there were public noncommercial places all over the place, perhaps it never would have.
