Two frequent failings of American liberals and conservatives that can happen in either weak or strong forms:

  • Conservatives, as illustrated so well by the recent abortion/pregnancy issue: Believing one can adequately judge the morality of a situation without adequately understanding either the science or the human experiences of those in the situation
  • Liberals, in believing that those outside the situation can never understand it well enough to suggest policy relevant to it, and in ascribing disagreement with their preferred solution to such a lack of understanding
